24 days baby leaf, 45 days to maturity. Certified Organic.
Peking Ta Ching Kou Pai Tsai (Brassica rapa) is a prolific heirloom Asian green. This easy-to-grow vegetable is cherished for its culinary versatility and ornamental appeal. It produces large, purple-tinged leaves that can reach heights of over three feet, adding a striking presence to any garden. The tender leaves can be used similarly to collards and kale, making them suitable for sautéing, steaming, or incorporating into soups and salads. Beyond its visual appeal, this heirloom variety is valued for its rapid growth and adaptability, thriving in both spring and fall plantings. Its unique combination of beauty and flavor makes Peking Ta Ching Kou Pai Tsai a standout choice for gardeners seeking both form and function.
Sow seeds directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed to prevent premature bolting. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep and 1 inch apart in rows spaced 18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 6–12 inches apart to allow ample space for growth, or sow in dense bands for baby greens. Cover with frost protection or insect netting to keep out flea beetles and improve quality. For a fall harvest, sow seeds in late summer. Seeds typically germinate within 4–7 days. Peking Ta Ching Kou Pai Tsai thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Harvest leaves when they are young and tender for the best flavor, or allow the plant to mature for larger leaves. Regular harvesting encourages new growth and extends the productive period of the plant.

Growing Resources for Mustard Greens and Asian Greens
The Midwest, with its unique combination of diverse topographies, microclimates, soil types, and weather patterns, presents a distinct set of growing challenges. At Driftless Seed Supply, our deep understanding of these conditions, honed by years of experience as Midwest growers, informs every seed we produce.
Generations of seed production, coupled with rigorous trialing in partnership with regional farmers, have enabled us to offer seeds that are exceptionally well-suited to the Midwest's unique growing environment.
Our commitment goes beyond just supplying seeds. We strive to ensure that Midwest farmers and gardeners like you have access to seeds that are not only well-adapted to our region but also capable of producing outstanding yields. Each generation of seeds we cultivate here in the Midwest—rather than in distant, climatically different regions—enhances the adaptability and performance of our varieties, setting them apart from those offered by many other seed companies.
Additionally, our collaboration with small local farms for most of our seed production is a testament to our dedication to strengthening the Midwest's food system. This approach not only supports local agriculture but also avoids the need to rely on large-scale production facilities in distant locations, whether out West or abroad.
We ship anywhere in the lower 48 states of the US via USPS.
All sales are final and we do not accept returns or exchanges except in the case of delivering the wrong item or recalling specific seed lots due to contamination. For wholesale customers who purchase our pre-filled bundles, we will provide a credit for the following season’s order for any packets returned by October 1st.
