30 days baby greens, 70 days to full size maturity. Certified Organic.
'Kale' is a bit of a misnomer, as this is more of a mustard green, and will bolt in summer heat. It brings the texture of a heart mustard green with a the flavor of a lacinato kale, with a hint of mustard. This delightful leafy green is excellent in soups, sautés, salads or just about anything else you would use a sturdy green for. Excellent as baby greens for salad, or let it grow full size for bunching and flower for edible yellow flowers. As if it's flavor and functionality weren't enough, you'll find this Ethiopian Blue Kale to be less susceptible to insect damage as well as cold tolerant.
Ethiopian Blue Kale can be transplanted, but we recommend it is direct seeded. If transplanting, sow in plug trays 3 weeks before last frost ¼"-½" deep in growing media. A week before transplanting, bring out to partial sun to harden off during the day. Transplant 12" between plants with 12" between rows. If Direct seeding. Seed about 12 seeds/foot in rows 12" apart. Thin down to 8-12" between plants after the first true leaves emerge. Baby greens can be seeded densely and harvested beginning around 25-30 days at 4" high. Sow every 2 weeks for successive harvests.

Growing Resources for Mustard Greens and Asian Greens
The Midwest, with its unique combination of diverse topographies, microclimates, soil types, and weather patterns, presents a distinct set of growing challenges. At Driftless Seed Supply, our deep understanding of these conditions, honed by years of experience as Midwest growers, informs every seed we produce.
Generations of seed production, coupled with rigorous trialing in partnership with regional farmers, have enabled us to offer seeds that are exceptionally well-suited to the Midwest's unique growing environment.
Our commitment goes beyond just supplying seeds. We strive to ensure that Midwest farmers and gardeners like you have access to seeds that are not only well-adapted to our region but also capable of producing outstanding yields. Each generation of seeds we cultivate here in the Midwest—rather than in distant, climatically different regions—enhances the adaptability and performance of our varieties, setting them apart from those offered by many other seed companies.
Additionally, our collaboration with small local farms for most of our seed production is a testament to our dedication to strengthening the Midwest's food system. This approach not only supports local agriculture but also avoids the need to rely on large-scale production facilities in distant locations, whether out West or abroad.
We ship anywhere in the lower 48 states of the US via USPS.
All sales are final and we do not accept returns or exchanges except in the case of delivering the wrong item or recalling specific seed lots due to contamination.
